Rooftop Farm Opens at Essex Crossing, While Eleven Madison Park Team Drops Lower East Side Project | The Lo-Down : News from the Lower East Side

The developers behind Essex Crossing and a nonprofit group called Project EATS yesterday debuted a 9,000 square rooftop farm.  It’s located on the 6th floor of “The Essex,” a mixed-use building at 125 Delancey St. (the same building where the new Essex Market is located). On Wednesdays and Saturdays, produce from the organic farm is being sold in the plaza located on Broome Street between Clinton Street and Suffolk Street. When the first phase of the Market Line, an underground shopping pavilion, finally opens, the farmstead will move indoors. Among the crops now being grown: carrots, turnips, radishes and beets. There will also be some baby kale, mustard greens and arugula.

Chinese-American Planning Council breaks ground for Broome St development

The Chinese-American Planning Council (CPC), in partnership with the Gotham Organization, today held a ceremony to celebrate the groundbreaking of both 55 Suffolk Street and 64 Norfolk Street in the Lower East Side. CPC chose the Gotham Organization as its partner to help plan and build the proposed community in 2017, concluding an extensive RFP process. The two organizations partnered over a period of four years concluding with a ULURP approval for the mixed-use community in February 2020. In December, the development team closed on a total $230 million financial capitalization of 55 Suffolk Street to begin construction of the 330,000 s/f building including a new 40,000 s/f state of the art Chinese-American Planning Council headquarters, 378 rental homes including 94 affordable residences and 18,000 s/f of small format retail space.

The first phase of Northeast Heights includes the construction of a 258,500-square-foot office building with 18,000 square feet of street-level retail. Washington, D.C. A joint venture between Cedar Realty Trust (NYSE: CDR), Asland Capital Partners and the Goldman Sachs Urban Investment Group has broken ground on the first phase of Northeast Heights. The $600 million mixed-use office and retail development is located in the Minnesota and Benning submarket of Washington D.C.’s Ward 7 neighborhood. The property is located at 3924 Minnesota Ave. Construction has a completion date of late 2022 or early 2023. The first phase of Northeast Heights includes the construction of a 258,500-square-foot office building, as well as 18,000 square feet of street-level retail. The office space is 100 percent leased to the Washington, D.C., Department of General Services for its headquarters.
