Decisions to curb COVID-19 in Goa to be taken today, says CM Pramod Sawant ANI | Updated: Apr 21, 2021 13:09 IST Panaji (Goa) [India], April 21 (ANI): Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday informed that decisions about tackling COVID-19 in the state will be taken in the evening today. I will declare further information on Covid restrictions today at 5 pm, the chief minister said. However, the Chief Minister reassured that no lockdown will happen, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his address on Tuesday night, said that lockdown is last option. Speaking to ANI, Pramod Sawant also said that he met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and briefed him in detail about the COVID-19 situation in the state.

The curfew will be effective from Wednesday night (today) onwards till April 30. As per night curfew guidelines, casinos, bars, cinema halls will operate at 50 per cent capacity only. The decision has been taken after 1,500 fresh cases were reported in the state. Earlier in the day, addressing a meeting on the Covid situation in the state, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the government will prefer the imposition of certain stringent restrictions given the rise in COVID-19 cases but ruled out clamping of a lockdown.

The state government has categorised five states Kerala, Goa, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Uttarakhand and Delhi-NCR (UT) as places of sensitive origin amid the recent surge in COVID-19 cases. A new SOP has been put in place for travel in long-distance trains from these states to contain the spread of the coronavirus. COVID-19 is a global pandemic. Let us put up a combined fight against this pandemic under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji. I urge Maharashtra Chief Minister Office not to single out states as Places of Sensitive Origin , and withdraw the said order in public interest, Sawant tweeted.
