An ongoing dispute between organised labour, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) and Provincial Traffic Management with regards to the issue of declaring Gauteng Traffic Police an essential service is “putting lives in danger.”
That is according to the Democratic Alliance (DA) on Monday.

The three suspects were arrested in Soweto.
“It is alleged that the taxi squad car pulled over a minibus on Soweto highway in Diepkloof, Soweto forced the driver and occupants out of the vehicle and took their minibus keys demanding money for the minibus to be released.
“Swift response by the police led to the arrest of three suspects driving a branded taxi owner association sedan they were charged with intimidation, extortion and robbery,” says Sibasa.
Sibasa says police are determined to put an end to the behaviour.

Gauteng Traffic Police spokesperson Sello Maremane says the highest speed recorded was of a 52-year-old male motor biker who was caught excessively speed at 209 km/h on a 120 zone along the R21 freeway.
“The driver was detained at Lyttelton Police Station where he was formally charged with reckless and negligent driving as well as an alternative charge of exceeding the prescribed speed limit of 120km/h on a freeway. The lowest recorded speed was that of a 35 years old male caught driving at 160km/h on a prescribed 120 km per hour zone on the N14 freeway,”says Maremane.

Gauteng Traffic Police will continue to reinforce law enforcement operations in the province following a high number of reported fatal crashes that led to major loss of lives during the Easter weekend.
