THE Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) says it did not issue any new manning requirements as claimed by Goundar Shipping Ltd (GSL).
MSAF chief executive Simon Gravenall said the Fijian maritime law was clear that it was the shipowners and masters responsibility to ensure vessels were properly manned at all times.
“The authority is only requiring the minimum safe manning requirements that need to be met by operators,” he said.
Mr Gravenall made the comments in reference to an online post on Goundar Shipping Ltd’s Facebook page where it informed Rotuma and Taveuni customers they were cancelling trips to the two destinations because of new manning requirements by MSAF.
