Biden calls out Putin as US, Russia relations get back to basics (Editorial) Updated Feb 08, 2021; For Vladimir Putin, it must have felt like the bad old days had come back with a vengeance. But really, what happened was a return to normal. Putin, the Russian strongman who has effectively made himself president for life, took a telephone call from Joe Biden, our nation’s newly inaugurated chief executive, and it was nothing like what the Russian leader had experienced during the years when Donald Trump was in the White House. Instead, Biden spoke of Russian aggression in Ukraine, its poisoning and subsequent mistreatment of a detained opposition leader, the Kremlin’s interference in our nation’s 2020 election, and a widespread hack of private and U.S. government computer networks that Russia was apparently behind. Good for him.
