While business had steadily increased since the March lockdown, which turned the CBD into a ghost town, Mr Plagiotis said the recent outbreaks had sent business at the Hungry Bean Cafe in Clarence Street into a sudden nosedive.

Sydney Business Chamber’s Executive Director Katherine O’Regan says she is pleased the fireworks will go ahead on New Year’s Eve and hopes it will keep people motivated for a good business year in 2021.
Her comment comes after New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced on Monday no changes would be made to restrictions within Greater Sydney ahead of New Year’s celebrations.
Households would still only be allowed to accept up to 10 visitors – including children.
Allocated spots for frontline workers along Sydney Harbour – to watch the New Year’s Eve fireworks display – were also cancelled as health authorities deemed the event too great a health risk.
