According to the news release, a 911 caller reported that an armed man, identified as Dr. Bharat Narumanchi, entered the office of the Children s Medical Group around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, and was holding hostages inside. The officers learned that there were several hostages at the medical office before they got there, and all, except 43-year-old pediatrician Dr. Katherine Lindley Dodson, were released.

BY NATE CHUTE, WOCHIT LOS ANGELES (Austin American Statesman) Days after Austin police identified Dr. Bharat Narumanchi as the man behind a hostage standoff in Central Austin that ended in his suicide and the death of pediatrician Dr. Lindley Dodson, a 43-year-old mother of three, his exact motives are still unknown. But interviews with colleagues and witnesses indicate that terminal illness and a desire to be closer to family members brought him to Austin. Obstetrician Dr. H. Joseph Khan was a colleague of Narumanchi’s at Paramount Care Medical Group in Santa Ana, Calif., before the pediatrician came to Austin six months ago, he said.

People who knew Bharat Narumanchi, the doctor whom police say fatally shot an Austin pediatrician before purportedly turning the gun on himself, said they believe the terminally ill man had returned to the Texas city to be close to his family after learning of the grim diagnosis, according to recent reports.
