Authorities said DNA evidence connected him to the crime. The defendant, Montelle J. Brown, 28, was held for court on charges including first-degree felony counts of rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and burglary in the attack on the female student in her dorm room in Ravine-Narvik Hall on the Allegheny campus on Dec. 10, 2019. Meadville police accuse Brown of raping and sexually assaulting the victim at gunpoint. The attack remained unsolved for more than a year until authorities announced in February that DNA evidence collected in the rape investigation matched Brown s DNA. Crawford County District Attorney Francis Schultz said in announcing the filing of charges against Brown that, at the time forensic evidence was initially tested in the rape case, Brown s DNA was not in the Combined DNA Index System database.
