BUCYRUS - A planned mass vaccination clinic that would have offered Crawford County residents the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine Thursday will instead offer the Moderna vaccine, the Crawford County Health Department announced Tuesday.
On Tuesday, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and state health officials advised all Ohio vaccine providers to temporarily pause use of the vaccine, after the federal Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control recommended doing so following extremely rare blood-clotting events of six people in the U.S. after receiving the vaccine.
Ohio Northern University launched a series of state-sponsored COVID-19 mobile mass vaccination clinics in Crawford, Marion, Wyandot, Hardin, Logan and Union, with four dates scheduled in Bucyrus. After use of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine was paused, the university was exploring options for resuming future clinics, according to a Tuesday news release from the university.

The funds are part of a program known as ‘ESSER,’ which stands for ‘Elementary & Secondary School Emergency Relief’ as part of the ‘Education Stabilization Fund.’ This round of funding is referred to as ‘ESSER III.’
