Coronavirus morning headlines as Wales Covid Vaccination Plan to be published Cathy Owen The Welsh Government will set out when people will be offered a vaccine when it publishes its Covid Vaccination Plan on Monday, January 11. The plan is expected to describe how all eligible adults will be vaccinated in the biggest programme of its kind, as Wales faces criticism for the speed of its roll-out. From Monday, daily vaccination figures for Wales will be published after it was revealed that 70,000 people had received their first dose of the Covid vaccine by the end of last week. There have been around 275,000 doses available in Wales, meaning approximately 1.6% of people were vaccinated up to January 3 - fewer than all other UK nations.

Clap for Heroes: Gwent doctors call for people to stay indoors

DOORSTEP applause which became a weekly ritual of the first coronavirus lockdown returned tonight, with some Gwent NHS doctors discouraging the gesture. Pockets of residents across Gwent and the rest of the UK decided to show their admiration for healthcare workers by clapping outside their homes, but it wasn t as popular as Clap for Carers last year. It came after Clap for Carers founder Annemarie Plas called for a return to the applause, renamed Clap for Heroes. Annemarie Plas threatened by online trolls over its return. (PA) But doctors – including intensive care consultants Dr Ami Jones and Dr David Hepburn – asked people not to take part.

Clap for Carers will return on Thursday under a new name of Clap for Heroes with the UK under strict lockdown rules due to rising cases of coronavirus. However some doctors have asked people to stay home. NHS Wales boss Dr Andrew Goodall said it was treating almost 2,800 Covid-related patients, taking up more than a third of all hospital beds, and is the highest on record. If this trend continues, very soon the number of coronavirus related patients in hospital will be twice the peak we saw during the first wave in April, he said.
