Teagasc appoints new head of animal and bioscience research

Teagasc has appointed Professor David Kenny as head of its animal and bioscience research department. He will take over from Michael Diskin who retired last year. The main animal bioscience facilities are located at the Teagasc Research Centre, Grange, Co Meath from where Professor Kenny will lead the department. There are also facilities and staff in Teagasc Moorepark, Co Cork, and Teagasc Athenry, Co Galway. Professor Kenny holds a degree in animal science from University College Dublin, as well as a PhD in nutrition and reproductive physiology of cattle.

White Eagle Grange donates funds for music department

PENDLETON — The White Eagle Grange recently scored support for the Pilot Rock High School music department. Gail Wilson, the group’s treasurer, said the group provided a $250 donation to help with the repair and purchase of instruments. Nikki Shattuck, a six-year White Eagle Grange member and current secretary, shared about the condition of the school’s instruments during the Feb. 1 Grange meeting. Shattuck, who participates in the Pilot Rock High School band, said she was well aware of the need and was hoping to gain support. “That’s what the Grange is about, helping out the programs within our local communities and programs,” Shattuck said.

Register of Historic Places commemorates Plymouth s Lower Intervale Grange February 11, 2021PLYMOUTH The New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources is pleased to announce that the State Historical Resources Council has added Plymouth s Lower Intervale Grange and five other properties to the New Hampshire State Register of Historic Places. Plymouth s Lower Intervale Grange #321, built by local farmers in 1912, is part of the grange movement that blossomed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Granges not only increased educational opportunities and economic profitability by fostering cooperation among local farmers, but they also served as important social centers for members and their families. Fifty-seven granges still operate in New Hampshire, eight of them in Grafton County.
