Two Marines charged in hit-and-run that hurt two inside tent

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) Two Camp Lejeune Marines have been charged after deputies said their pickup truck hit a tent with two people inside, a sheriff s office said.
The Craven County Sheriff s Office said deputies received a call Friday night from an area of the Croatan National Forest, WITN reported.
According to the sheriff’s office, a Navy corpsman and a civilian had been camping in the tent when it was hit by a truck that did not stop. Authorities said the man and the woman inside the tent were taken to an area hospital, but are expected to recover.

May 23 Two Marines are seriously injured after officials say they were run over while camping in Eastern North Carolina.
The man and woman, who are stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, were camping in a tent in Croatan National Forest late Friday night when a truck ran them over, Maj. David McFadyen with the Craven County Sheriff s Office told WNCT.
The two were taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville with serious injuries, McFadyen told WCTI. They are expected to survive.

Officer Thalmann was slain by a bullet while in the line of duty in 2014. Struck down while pursuing a suspect near Craven Terrace on March 28th, he was treated at CarolinaEast and quickly shipped to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville where he succumbed to his wounds on March 31st. He is buried near his home in Washington, NC.
A dedication ceremony was held Tuesday morning in front of the ambulance bay, attended by numerous members of the first responders community from firemen and ambulance personnel to police representing several municipalities and the Craven County Sheriff’s Office.

A Vanceboro man has been charged with several counts of possessing and distributing child pornography.
According to a Craven County Sheriff’s Office news release, an investigation between the sheriff’s office and the State Bureau of Investigation Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce led to the arrest of Howard Roughton III, age 67, of Main Street. Investigators found multiple files of child pornography and videos of bestiality.
Roughton is charged with eight felony counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, eight felony counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor, and five felony counts disseminating obscene material. He was placed in the Craven County jail under a $2.1 million bond.
On April 22, 2021 at approximately 4 a.m. the Craven County Sheriff’s Office responded to Brinson Memorial Elementary School, located at 319 Neuse Forrest Ave. New Bern, N.C. in reference to an alarm activation. Deputies were in the area and responded immediately.
After further investigation it was determined the school was broken into and numerous electronic items from the school were located outside the school.
Deputies were able to identify Charles “Charlie” Rose Jr as the person responsible for the breaking & entering.
Charles Rose Jr, 36, of Spring Meadows Road Vanceboro, N.C. is charged with felony breaking & entering, felony larceny after breaking & entering, and felony possession of burglary tools.
