Installing a smart doorbell on your abode could actually increase your home s attractiveness to burglars, researchers from Britain s Cranfield University have said.
The defence n security-focused institution s findings fly in the face of heavy marketing from companies such as Amazon s Ring, whose video-enabled doorbell product has been touted around the world as a security-enhancing gadget. It s an affluence clue.
Worse, for vendors, Cranfield University s Dr Duncan Hodges reckoned the presence of a smart doorbell was unlikely to have any significant effect on residential burglary rates. Instead, he said in a summary of a research paper published on the Centre for Research and Evidence on Security Threats website, smart doorbells and smart locks could actually make things worse.

Consortium led by Skyfarer, O2, Cranfield University, Altitude Angel, and Phoenix Wings aims to reduce waiting times
Skyfarer is leading a consortium that includes O2 which aims to create the infrastructure for a new drone delivery network in the UK.
The plan will reportedly provide a quicker and greener mode of medical transport across the country.
Made up of O2, Skyfarer, Cranfield University, Phoenix Wings and unified traffic management solutions provider Altitude Angel, the consortium forms the first medical drone delivery network of this type in the heart of England, with plans to create a national infrastructure enabling same-day delivery with autonomous drones in the future.

The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State, has promoted Dr Michael Adegbite as the new Director of Engineering (DOE) of the institution.
In a press statement signed by the Deputy Director, Public Affairs of the Institute, Mr Brown Ukanefimoni and made available to
Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday in Warri, the promotion takes effect from January 1, 2021.
Mr Ukanefimoni said “the Institute’s Governing Council ratified the promotion at its 142nd meeting held on March 4, 2021, at the Executive Club Lounge, Fraser Suite, Abuja and that, prior to his promotion, he was the Head of Quality Management System (QMS).
The statement further disclosed that the new Director of Engineering joined the employ of the Institute on March 2, 1989, as a lecturer in the Department of Welding Engineering and Offshore Technology.
