Vienna, May 16 (EFE).- Austrian researchers have built shoes with sensors embedded in them to alert blind and visually impaired people of obstacles in their path.
Developed by Austria’s Tec-Innovation company in collaboration with the Graz University of Technology, the intelligent shoes “can increase the safety of visually impaired and blind people in their everyday life.”
The warning system includes an ultra-bright LED and two sensors placed at the front of each shoe.
The sensors detect obstacles and notify the wearer through vibration feedback in the shoe or sound warning signals via a smartphone.
The next wave of innovations in crop science may come not from cross-breeding plants or reprogramming their genes but by tweaking the microbes that live in, on and around them.
Yes, plants have microbiomes, too, and those billions of tiny hitchhikers can help them grow and fight off invading pathogens. Researchers are trying to understand these microbial communities and adjust them to help plants become more resistant to drought, heat and infection. As crop diseases spread due to globalization and climate change, disease-resistant plants with fortified microbiomes may become vital to ensuring a steady food supply for a growing human population.

The invention called InnoMake belongs to the Austrian startup Tec-Innovation and makes a great assistant for visually impaired people.
The InnoMake shoe is an intelligent medical device that comes equipped with ultrasonic sensors placed on the toe of the footwear. The sensors can detect obstacles up to four meters (13 feet) away and warn their wearer through sound alerts and vibration, as explained on the TU Graz website.
But the more interesting thing about the InnoMake shoe is that it’s going to receive an impressive upgrade. Tec-Innovation partnered with the Graz University of Technology to make the shoe even smarter and more helpful.
