Inspectors have praised a hospital trust in South West England for the way it is using nursing staff as personal protective equipment (PPE) safety officers.
The role was introduced at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust by the organisation s chief nurse in the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We heard how these staff led changes and identified where they could improve communication by simplifying language

There is now a 40-strong team of trained PPE safety officers made up of nurses, nursing associates and healthcare assistants who remind and support colleagues to wear the right protective gear.

The Princess Royal carried out her first public engagement since her father’s funeral, visiting three NHS hospitals in Gloucestershire.
Princess Anne’s visits were to thank the staff of each hospital for their hard work over the past year and the many challenges of the coronavirus pandemic. She first visited the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, where she opened a commemorative garden that had been designed by Danny Clarke.
“It’s incredibly important for families and friends of loved ones lost to COVID-19 to have a space where they can visit and reflect,” said Dr Hina Iftikhar, Chief Registrar at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

The UK s first vaccine passport has been launched by an independent healthcare management app.
The vaccine certification technology for iOS users displays whether a patient is sufficiently protected from Covid-19 12 days following the second vaccine dose.
A version for Android users is expected to launch over the coming weeks.
It comes after prime minister Boris Johnson announced a new anti-viral taskforce at the latest press conference.
The new team has been tasked with supercharging the UK s search for anti-viral medications which could be used to treat Covid-19 at home.
