Here s who you re voting for, what powers they have and how to vote.
Who am I voting for?
Gloucestershire County Council, which has been Conservative-led since the last election. At present the council consists of Conservatives, 28, Liberal Democrats, 13, Labour & Co-operative Group, four, independents, three, Greens, two, Labour, one, and People Against Bureaucracy Group, one.
Stroud District Council, which is presently led by a cooperative alliance of the Labour, Green and Liberal Democrat parties. Voters elect 51 councillors for the district council every four years. In the last election, they voted in 20 Conservatives, 15 Labour, nine Green, two Liberal Democrats and four others. There is one vacant seat.
On May 6, voters will choose their preferred candidates for Stroud District Council, Gloucestershire County Council, the Gloucestershire Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) and parish councils (if contested). We asked each party fielding multiple candidates to write why residents should vote for them. We love where we live. From the beauty of the Cotswolds to the River Severn, through our market towns with their rich industrial heritage and cutting-edge industry, to our radical politics and rural communities, we’re a diverse district when it comes to politics and values, but one thing we share: we care for the places where we live.
Tetbury news with Kevin Painter MANY Tetbury shops and businesses would like to take this opportunity to thank new and existing customers who have been wonderfully supportive since the reopening and continue to be. Many shops have had a great first week back and have enjoyed seeing many familiar friendly faces who seemed as genuinely pleased to be back in the town. The town really came back to life with all the market stalls under the market house complementing this unique Cotswold market town, now with outside catering establishments in the town for visitors to benefit and enjoy.
