CQC highlights success of nursing staff in role of PPE safety officers

Gloucestershire Royal Hospital Inspectors have praised a hospital trust in South West England for the way it is using nursing staff as personal protective equipment (PPE) safety officers. The role was introduced at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust by the organisation s chief nurse in the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic. “We heard how these staff led changes and identified where they could improve communication by simplifying language CQC report There is now a 40-strong team of trained PPE safety officers made up of nurses, nursing associates and healthcare assistants who remind and support colleagues to wear the right protective gear.

Princess Anne visits Gloucestershire hospitals to thank staff

22nd April 2021 The Princess Royal carried out her first public engagement since her father’s funeral, visiting three NHS hospitals in Gloucestershire. Princess Anne’s visits were to thank the staff of each hospital for their hard work over the past year and the many challenges of the coronavirus pandemic. She first visited the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, where she opened a commemorative garden that had been designed by Danny Clarke. “It’s incredibly important for families and friends of loved ones lost to COVID-19 to have a space where they can visit and reflect,” said Dr Hina Iftikhar, Chief Registrar at the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital.

Princess Royal opens garden to commemorate Covid-19 victims

The Princess Royal has opened a garden to commemorate loved ones lost to coronavirus, during one of three visits to hospitals in Gloucestershire. The Queen and late Duke of Edinburgh’s only daughter spoke to NHS staff about their work during the pandemic, at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH), Wotton Lawn Hospital, and Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) on Wednesday. At GRH, the princess opened the tribute garden designed by Danny Clarke, known as The Black Gardener, which also marks the contribution of NHS staff and carers. Anne then saw hundreds of commemorative wire dandelions that have been placed in an open green space at CGH, each bearing a tribute to a loved one who lost their life to Covid-19, and laid a dandelion of her own.
