In-depth: The financial cost of COVID-19 for Arizona school districts and charters

Glendale schools still require masks

Gov. Doug Ducey and the Arizona Department of Health Services rescinded executive orders requiring masks in K-12 schools on April 19.  “Nearly 2 million Arizonans are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with many teachers and school faculty now full vaccinated after being some of the first in line for vaccine prioritization,” Ducey said in his announcement.   “Teachers, families and students have acted responsibly to mitigate the spread of the virus and protect one another, and our school leaders are ready to decide if masks should be required on their campuses. We will continue to work with public health professionals and Arizona’s schools as more students return to the classroom and our state moves forward.”

Educator Vaccination Events Continue This Weekend In Maricopa County

This weekend s vaccination events will cover Glendale Union High School District, Higley Unified School District, Gilbert Public Schools, and Queen Creek Unified School District.  The events are for any child care workers or school staff who work within that geographic area   that includes K-12 public, private, and charter schools as well as licensed or unlicensed child care centers. Several districts including in Phoenix, Chandler and Scottsdale have already hosted vaccination events. The county plans to continue hosting events until all school districts in the county are covered.  Any staff member of a public, private, or charter school or child care facility will be able to get vaccinated at the site closest to their work location, a county spokesperson said in an email to KJZZ. We anticipate approximately 60,000 total people vaccinated through these limited-access PODs.
