Graduation activities underway for Class of 2021 Jay Hinton Glen Rose Reporter GLEN ROSE Friday’s Senior Trip to Six Flags for the Class of 2021 begins a plethora of events over the next two weeks that will culminate with graduation ceremonies on Friday, May 28, at the Glen Rose High School Auditorium. “Graduation is just around the corner, and we want to make all of our end-of-the-year events memorable ones for all of our seniors and their parents,” Glen Rose Principal Kelly Shackelford said in a letter recently sent out to the graduating seniors and their parents. Due to COVID-19, the 2020 graduation ceremonies were held at Tiger Stadium with heavy procedures and protocols in place. This year, the graduation will return to the auditorium  graduation’s traditional home.

Dr. Monk reaping benefits of lifelong learning Jay Hinton Glen Rose Reporter GLEN ROSE When Mallory Daniels Monk graduates Friday from the University of Saint Joseph with a doctor of pharmacy degree, it will be one day after turning 22 and several weeks shy of five years from the time she graduated as the valedictorian of Glen Rose High School. “I don’t know exactly where I thought I would be in five years, but I certainly have been able to accomplish more in this period of time than I ever thought possible,” she said. “I’m really grateful for the opportunities I’ve come across since graduating from high school.”

Whitefield achieves goal of becoming a Texas Tech Twirler Jay Hinton Glen Rose Reporter GLEN ROSE More than a decade ago, Laney Whitefield began dreaming of becoming a Texas Tech Twirler after she met twirler Amanda Tolley at the West Texas Twirling Championships in Odessa. “I was fascinated by her every move and thought it was so cool how she was a college kid and was a feature twirler for my dream school,” Whitefield said. “I knew I wanted to be just like her and join a sisterhood like the Texas Tech Twirlers.” A little friendship grew between the two, and they would connect whenever they ran across each other.

Stephenville community news in brief Stephenville Empire-Tribune Car show and swap meet set for this weekend The Chicken House Flea Market and 4 Elite Auto Sales & Detailing are hosting a car show and swap meet through Sunday at the flea market, 8080 Highway 377 South. The swap meet will be all three days. The car show will only be on Saturday and Sunday. They are offering a free T-shirt and dash plaque with car show registration. The show will be decided by spectator voting. In addition, there will be a 50/50 drawing benefitting Foster s Home for Children, along with door prizes and a poker run. Must be present to win prizes.
