A 22-YEAR-old man replied “I am sorry about the man” when he was charged with murder of pensioner Kwok Ping Cheng who was beaten to death in his home in Dublin, a court has heard.
Mr Cheng, who was aged 76, and known to his friends and neighbours as George, was originally from Hong Kong, but he had lived for several years in a flat in Robinson’s Court, just off Cork Street in Dublin’s south inner city.

A man charged with the murders of a woman and two children at their south County Dublin home has been sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court.
An investigation was launched following a post-mortem into the three deaths in October. Neither they nor the defendant can be identified for legal reasons.
The case has now progressed to the next stage before new laws allowing murdered children to be named come into effect.

Gardai arrested the man, who is in his 30s, in November and charged him with three counts of murder after which he made no reply.

A 29 year old man has appeared in court charged with murdering his girlfriend in North Dublin.
24 year old Jennifer Poole was stabbed to death in Finglas on Saturday.
Jennifer Poole – a mother of two young children - was stabbed at her home in Melville Drive in Finglas at around 2 o’clock on Saturday afternoon.
She was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
This morning her boyfriend Gavin Murphy of Coultry Drive in Ballymun appeared before Blanchardstown District Court charged with her murder.
The court heard the 29 year made no reply when he was charged just after midnight at Finglas Garda Station.
A 29-year-old man has been remanded in custody after he was charged with the murder of Jennie Poole who died after she was stabbed in her home in Dublin at the weekend.
The 24-year-old mother of two was injured in her first-floor apartment in Melville Drive, Finglas, north Dublin, at about 2pm on Saturday. One of her children was in the apartment at the time, while the other was with relatives.
Neighbours raised the alarm and emergency services attended the scene before she was taken to Connolly hospital where she died a short time later.
Gavin Murphy, who was Ms Pooleâs boyfriend, was arrested in Ballymun on Saturday and detained for questioning at Finglas Garda station.
