The ranking, compiled by the team behind the QS World University Rankings, is based on five key pillars, which are then broken down into individual criteria: university rankings; student mix; quality of living; employer activity and affordability.
To be included in the ranking, each city must have a population of over 250,000, and must be home to at least two ranked institutions in the QS World University Rankings. 116 cities in the world qualify on this basis, 50 have been ranked.
This year, the number of criteria has increased from 14 to 18, adding in metrics on safety and pollution as well as the Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index and the Social Progress Index .
KUALA LUMPUR (July 5): An alliance of four Malaysian government-linked universities (GLU) have established themselves as top institutions by consistently getting good national and international ratings.
Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Multimedia University (MMU) and Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) are wholly-owned by government-linked companies (GLC) and have made it into the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and Times Higher Education (THE) rankings, as well as been recognised by the Malaysia Research Assessment instrument (MyRA) and Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education Institutions (SETARA).
GLU, in a statement today, said that UTP is ranked 70th in the QS Asia Rankings 2021, UNITEN is 168th, MMU is 190th and UniKL is in the 291st to 300th ranking band.

Canadian University Dubai (CUD) has commemorated this year’s Canada Day in Dubai with an all-day event on Thursday, July 1st, at the University’s City Walk campus. The occasion marked the official inauguration of the campus expansion.
In partnership with the Canadian Business Council in Dubai and Merex, CUD welcomed visitors of all nationalities to join in a range of activities to mark the 154th anniversary of the nation. The event was attended by H.E. Jean-Philippe Linteau, Consul General of Canada in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, and Mr. Colin Beaton, Chairman of the Canadian Business Council of Dubai and the Northern Emirates.
