MUZAFFARGARH: Two people were seriously injured in an alleged bid to extract metal from a mortar bomb, mistaking it for an empty shell, at a workshop, when it resulted in a blast near Chowk Sarwar Shaheed on Saturday night.
According to the initial police inquiry, a man identified as Javed Hussain, visited a metal workshop at Adda Riaz Abad, Chowk Sarwar Shaheed around midnight carrying two mortar bombs and asked the welder, Safdar, to cut those for extraction of metal. He convinced the welder that those were only empty shells and there was no harm in cutting the objects.
As the welder started cutting one of the shells, it exploded with a bang, leaving both of them seriously injured.

Security guard ‘shoots himself’

MUZAFFARGARH:
An 18-year old security guard allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself using a 30-bore pistol, police said on Tuesday. The victim, identified as Sajid, was found dead along with the pistol beside him at guesthouse of the owner Ali Abbas located at Chowk Sarwar Shaheed. Police said that an investigation was started to find out whether the man had committed suicide or may possibly have been killed at the workplace where he was on duty as a security guard. The exact reason for the apparent suicide was yet to be surfaced, the police officials added. However, the police department was conducting investigation on both of the aforementioned angles.
