Police in Chau Thanh District, located in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang, on Tuesday said that they had broken up a place illegally trafficking drugs and arrested at least six people.
Drug-related crime scouts of Chau Thanh District’s police unit caught Nguyen Thanh Yen, 24, living in Tan An City of Long An Province in the Mekong Delta region, possessing a plastic bag containing narcotics at 6:30 pm on Monday.

HCM City to spend US$2.3 million to repair HCM City-Trung Luong expressway.
HCM City will spend VNĐ55 billion (US$2.3 million) to maintain and repair the HCM City-Trung Lương expressway.
HCM City will spend an additional VNĐ55 billion (US$2.3 million) to repair and maintain the HCM City-Trung Lương expressway.
Nguyễn Văn Thành, head of the Department of Road Management No 4, said that recently the city had spent VNĐ22 billion to repair a section of the expressway.
In April, the department would spend more VNĐ55 billion to continue the work.
After more than 10 years of operation, the expressway has deteriorated because of severe cracks caused by container trucks.

Five localities in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta region have had a disagreement about whether or not they should allow the expansion of production capacity at a Hong Kong-invested paper making complex over environmental concerns.
The paper mill, operated by Lee & Man Co. Ltd., which is a subsidiary of Hong Kong’s Lee & Man Paper, has a total investment capital of US$628.7 million.
Situated in Chau Thanh District, Hau Giang Province, the complex covers an area of 82 hectares.

Man imprisoned for attempting to overthrow people’s administration

The People’s Court of north-central Nghe An province on December 15 sentenced Tran Duc Thach to 12 years in prison for “attempting to overthrow the people’s administration”.
Thach, 68, from the province’s Dien Chau district, will be subject to a probationary period of three years upon his release. He was previously sentenced to three years behind bars on charges of “conducting propaganda against the Socialist Republic of Vietnam”.
