Remains of 2nd victim found on Conejos County property identified Janet Oravetz

A second person whose remains were found on a Conejos County property in November has been identified as a woman who was last seen in October, according to an update from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
A forensic odontologist assisting task force investigators used dental records to identify the recovered remains as Shayla Jenna Hammel, who was in her mid-30s.
The Saguache woman was reported missing to the Saguache County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) on Nov. 26. At that time, a family member reported they had not had any contact with Hammel since late October.

SAGUACHE COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) The Saguache County Sheriff s Office is searching for a woman they say has been missing for nearly two months.
Deputies say Shayla Janee Hammel, 34, hasn t been seen or heard from for approximately seven weeks. According to investigators, Hammel was reported missing by her husband after his children and mother told him they hadn t been in contact with her. Her husband is currently incarcerated.
The Sheriff s Office says she is known to have lived in the Saguache area and possibly the San Luis Valley area. Hammel previously lived in Florida.

An arrest has been made in the homicide that occurred early Sunday morning in Saguache, according to a press release from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
Deputies with the Saguache County Sheriffâs Office, with assistance from Colorado State Patrol troopers, arrested Donald Garcia, 45, without incident just after 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. He was arrested in an abandoned camper in the town of Saguache.
Garcia is being held at the Saguache County Jail without bond and faces a charge of first-degree murder.
The victim has also been identified: Robert Turner Jr, 50, of Salida.
Investigators are not releasing how Turner died because it is part of the active investigation.
