Mummified corpse of spiritual leader found in US home, seven people arrested

A Colorado sheriff’s officer found the mummified corpse last month. A sleeping bag and Christmas lights enveloped the body, which was surrounded by a shrine. Glittery makeup encircled the eyes. Parts of the corpse were mummified, with the moisture naturally drained from the skin and bones. That was the scene a Colorado sheriff s officer found last month upon arriving at a low-slung blue home where a man reported that he had discovered a woman dead. Officials said they believe the woman to be Amy Carlson, leader of the obscure religious group Love Has Won, but have not yet confirmed her identity.

5 of 7 suspected of Love Has Won leader s corpse abuse remain in jail

Five of the seven apparent members of the Colorado-based Love Has Won spiritual group who were arrested April 28 in Saguache County after the death of Amy Carlson are still behind bars after their first court hearing Wednesday. Saguache County Sheriff s Office deputies found Carlson’s mummified body last week wrapped in a sleeping bag on a bed in a home in the town of Moffat in the San Luis Valley. Five have not posted the $2,000 bond, so remain in the Rio Grande County jail, and two  Ryan Kramer, 30, and Karin Raymond, 47  were released at web hearings Wednesday on personal recognizance.

Seven members of a suspected religious cult who were arrested last week on allegations of abusing a corpse made their first court appearances on Wednesday in Saguache County. Their actions to venerate their deceased leader aren’t as strange as they might seem, say experts who study such groups. It’s not surprising that the mummified remains of 45-year-old Amy Carlson, known as “Mother God” to followers of the Colorado-based “Love Has Won,” appeared to have been placed in what authorities described as a type of shrine, said Rick Alan Ross, founder and executive director of the Cult Education Institute in Trenton, N.J.

Saguache County man discovers mummified remains in his home

The weeks-old mummified remains of a woman discovered in a Saguache County home April 28 near Crestone led to the arrests of seven adults recently. Two children, a 13-year-old girl and a 2-year-old boy also found at the scene, were placed under the protection of Saguache County Social Services. The reporting party, Miguel Lamboy, 42, identified the body as that of Lia Carlson. A woman of that name is also known as Amy Carlson by Saguache County Sheriff’s Office. Formal identification of the woman is still pending, Saguache County Coroner Tom Perrin said Tuesday. Salida Police Department Sgt. Corey Orth said Lamboy told him after spending April 27, driving around the state, he returned home to discover five people needing a place to stay.
