The Sangamon County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of a man who died in a car crash in Western Sangamon County on Saturday.
38 year old Hendrik Willemse of the Republic of South Africa was the lone occupant of the vehicle that crashed on Watts Road, south of Pleasant Plains, and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy performed today determined that Willemse died from multiple blunt force injuries from the crash. The death remains under investigation by the Sangamon County Coroner’s office, pending additional studies.

A person was killed and another hospitalized following a two-vehicle collision in Springfield Saturday morning.
Springfield Police Department and Sangamon County Coroner Jim Allmon responded to the accident at about 4 a.m. at South Fifth Street and Lawrence Avenue. One pickup truck and a car were involved in the accident, Lt. Jason Brands said.
The identity of the person who died was not immediately available Saturday afternoon because next-of-kin had not yet been contacted, Allmon said in a news release. The person was pronounced dead at 4:53 a.m. and was driving the pickup truck during the accident. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday morning.
