While Illinois currently has a 94.6% seat belt use compliance rate, unbelted occupants still account for more than half of those killed in motor vehicle crashes. Shootings and gun violence have doubled in Springfield in 2021

  Gun violence across Springfield was on the increase in the first three months of the year. The city recorded 153 shootings,l according to a State Journal-Register analysis based on ShotSpotter, the city s gunshot detection system. Sixty-nine shootings were confirmed, with 20 people hit and three killed.  By comparison, over the same period of 2020, there were 52 confirmed shootings and seven people hit by gunfire, Springfield Police Department records show.  Shootings have happened throughout Springfield with most on the city’s east side inside a box between Ninth Street and Dirksen Parkway and between Clear Lake Avenue and Laurel Street. Other clusters appear near Springfield Southeast High School, Bunn Park, Kiwanis Park and apartment complexes along Westchester Boulevard and Seven Pines Road.

Springfield homes, vehicle hit when two people shot at each other

8 hours ago in Local Photo: Saga Communications Thursday, April 8, 2021 The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office reported finding shell casings after two people shot at each other in Springfield. WAND-TV reports deputies responded at 9 a.m. Wednesday to the 900 block of Forrest Ave. Authorities said one of the people involved was in a vehicle, which they found nearby and unoccupied. They could not find this person. They said the second person, who was outside of a residence in the 900 block of Forrest, fled the area before deputies arrived. Multiple shell casings were in the area. Two houses and a vehicle were hit by gunfire.

30 months probation for Decatur man who fired gun in Springfield mall

Support Local Journalism News reports from the time of the shooting incident said Harper, who was drunk, had gotten into an argument with his girlfriend in the parking lot of the White Oaks Mall on the evening of Dec. 28, 2019. Mall security had become involved and Harper had pulled a semi-automatic handgun and shot one .40 caliber round into the air and made threats to cause mayhem. A new study commissioned by Chase and conducted by OnePoll revealed that many people don’t know the exact dollar amount that comes out of their bank every month on recurring payments. Sangamon County Sheriff s Office: Woman arrested in Rochester stabbing

A Rochester woman turned herself in Friday to Sangamon County sheriff s deputies on charges that she stabbed a man to death early Thursday at their residence. Keely A. Williams, 46, faces three counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated domestic battery. Williams is accused of killing Joshua Pfeiler, 38, of Rochester. The incident occurred in the 6800 block of White Deer Trail, where Williams and Pfeiler lived and shared a romantic relationship. The Sangamon County Sheriff s Office reported that Pfeiler was stabbed at the residence and laid down in the driveway. Deputies provided medical attention to him before emergency medical services arrived and transported him to HSHS St. John s Hospital in Springfield.
