Global rubber body foresees extreme weather conditions impacting yield
The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) has scaled down world rubber production in 2020 by 10 per cent to 12.597 million tonnes due to a combination of factors such as climate change, extreme weather and leaf fall diseases that disrupted production across major growing countries.
The revised outlook is 3,04,000 tonnes below the forecast by the global rubber body in September. However, the global rubber body said that the NR market could gain in the short-term or at least sustain at the current rate.

ANRPC: Natural rubber prices set to gain in short-term

Kuala Lumpur – Natural rubber markets could gain, or at least sustain the current positive trend, in the short term, due to factors such as tight supply, high demand and a Covid recovery, according to the Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC).
In its latest monthly update 14 Dec, ANRPC said the global production of NR is anticipated to be down 10.1% during December compared to the same month last year.
A key contributor, said the association, is the spread of fungal leaf diseases in mature rubber trees occupying around 390,000 ha in Indonesia, 150,000 ha in Thailand, 19,000 ha in Malaysia, and 20,000 ha in Sri Lanka.

KUALA LUMPUR Global production of natural rubber is set to fall 9 percent to just under 12.6 million metric tons in 2020, according to the latest figures published by the Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries.
The revised outlook, published Dec. 14, is 2.2 percent or 304,000 tons lower than ANRPC s projections published in September, reflecting the impact of climatic change, extreme weather, and leaf diseases on output in major producing countries.
In 2021, production is anticipated to recover by 8.6 percent to 13.69 million tons, but will remain lower than the 2019 level of 13.84 million tons.
As for NR consumption, the association expects global demand to fall 6.9 percent to 12.8 million tons in 2021, reflecting an 8.6 percent year-over-year decline in the first 10 months of the year and a 1.2 percent increase during November and December.
