Zambia : Fr Michael Kelly dies

Renowned Zambian Jesuit priest of Irish origin, Fr. Michael Kelly(92) has died. This was announced by Fr Leonard Chiti who is the First Provincial for the Jesuits of the Province comprising Zambia, Malawi, Eswatini, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. “It is with great sadness and grief of the loss of our companion, Fr Michael J Kelly SJ,” he wrote. “Eternal Rest grant unto Michael and may perpetual light shine upon him.” Professor Father Michael J Kelly SJ. was born in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, Ireland, in 1929. He studied at University College Dublin and was awarded a B.A. in Maths and Mathematical Physics in 1952, both with first class honours.

Sir Ronald Sanders named for London University committee

Article by Social Share London – Veteran Caribbean diplomat Sir Ronald Sanders has been named to a ten-person committee to conduct an inquiry into the future of Commonwealth Studies at the University of London, the educational institution’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Wendy Thompson announced on Monday. The committee will hold its first meeting on January 21 under the chairmanship of Sir Malcolm Rifkind, a former Defence and Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary of the British Government. It is expected to take evidence from across the Commonwealth and submit its report and recommendations by June 2021. “I am delighted to serve on this important committee,” said Sir Ronald. “The Commonwealth has been a significant actor in world politics – for instance in ending Apartheid in South Africa.
