Kangaroo Court: We Need More Education Around AI | Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists (ACEDS)

To embed, copy and paste the code into your website or blog: One of the greatest barriers to artificial intelligence (AI) adoption is trust. Amongst other things, this includes the defensibility of results, leadership’s support in both the sourcing and roll-out of AI solutions, and comprehensive roadmaps for continued professional development. All these examples seek to remove the mystery of AI. Mystery in this case refers to the opaque nature of how AI tools are rolled-out, and not a basic understanding of AI via its academic or practical definitions and general purpose. In the title of this post, I deliberately use the word ‘around’ instead of ‘about’.

TRU Trends: April 2021 | Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists (ACEDS)

To embed, copy and paste the code into your website or blog: The biggest ESI news of the month was the announcement that Consilio and Xact are merging. The big companies in this industry are continuing to get bigger, but so are the little ones. Based on distribution of hiring seen in April (and reflected throughout most of Q1), ESI vendors under 50 million dollars in revenue are hiring at a 1:4 ratio to providers exceeding 100 million dollars in annual revenue. Two years ago, this was wildly disproportionate at an average 1:16 ratio. This means we are about to enter a renaissance for e-discovery boutiques who are capturing not only a greater piece of the business pie, but a meaningful segment of the marquee talent market share.

Kangaroo Court: Learning Quantum Computing – Part One | Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists (ACEDS)

Four Essential Principles of Quantum Computation The answer to the question “what is a quantum computer?” encompasses quantum mechanics (QM), quantum information theory (QIT) and computer science (CS). It is a device that leverages specific properties described by quantum mechanics to perform computation. We are entering a new era of computation that will catalyze discoveries in science and technology. Novel computing platforms will probe the fundamental laws of our universe and aid in solving hard problems that affect all of us. In this post I briefly outline four essential principles of quantum mechanical systems: superposition, the Born rule, entanglement, and reversible computation.

The Time to Move eDiscovery to the Cloud is Now, Part Two: Making It Happen | Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists (ACEDS)

In Part One of this post, I outlined a business case for migrating eDiscovery operations to the cloud. Now it’s time to review the basic steps you need to take to make it actually happen. Review contracts, map systems I recommend a three-part approach. First, it’s essential to understand your contractual obligations with the providers of any on-premise solutions you are currently using for eDiscovery. Most organizations rely on multiple solutions involving different software and/or vendors for processing, analytics, forensics, production, review, and so on. Moving to the cloud presents an opportunity to consolidate, integrate and improve processes in the long run, but you should first map out what systems you are currently using and develop a timeline for migration that takes into account your current agreements and any potential technical challenges associated with specific applications.
