UN chief welcomes ASEAN s appointment of Brunei diplomat

Jakarta [Indonesia], August 5 (ANI): UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the appointment by the ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) of Brunei s second Foreign Minister Erywan Yusof as special envoy to Myanmar, said Stephane Dujarric, UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in a statement. The Secretary-General welcomes the appointment of Erywan Yusof, Second Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam as Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair on Myanmar, Sputnik quoted Dujarric as saying on Wednesday.
In April, leaders of countries in the ASEAN reached a consensus on five points at a summit on the Myanmar crisis.

East Asia Summit is centre for US visions in the region say

Washington [US] August 5 (ANI): US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday said East Asia Summit (EAS) is central for the US visions for a free and open Indo-Pacific and peace and prosperity.
The US is expanding its strategic partnership with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and is committed to supporting the prosperity of our ASEAN partners, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said. Had a good meeting with my counterparts of the East Asia Summit nations. The EAS is central to the US vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific and peace and prosperity in the region, he tweeted.
Aware of the challenges at home and abroad, China has been seeking a policy mix featuring diversified monetary tools, fiscal support and a firm commitment to opening-up to keep the economy running within an appropriate range.
