Buhari Nominates Aghughu as Auditor General of the Federation

By Deji Elumoye President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Mr. Adolphis Aghughu for appointment as the Auditor-General of the Federation. Aghughu’s nomination, he said, 8s in consonant Section 86(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended). Buhari has therefore submitted the name of Aghughu to the Senate for approval as AuGF. The Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Babajide Omoworare, in a release on Tuesday also said the President nominated Victor Muruako for appointment as Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission in accordance with provision of section 5(3) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2007.

Ex-ANAN president optimistic of CBN retaining rates at first meeting

By Ige Adekunle Sango-Ota (Ogun) Jan. 24, 2021 Dr Samuel Nzekwe, ex-President, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria, predicted on Sunday that the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the CBN would retain November 2020 rates when it meets on Monday. The MPC is scheduled to hold its maiden meeting for the year on Monday and Tuesday. At its November 2020 meeting, the MPC retained Monetary Policy Rate at 11.5 per cent in an attempt at reversing recession and achieving medium term macroeconomic stability. The committee also retained the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) at 27.5 per cent and Liquidity Ratio at 30 per cent. Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Sango-Ota, Ogun State, Nzekwe said the committee would hold to the rates announced at the November 2020 meeting as it was too early to determine the direction the economy would go now.

Experts, Stakeholders canvass Tax Automation at FIRS Dialogue

Tax experts, speakers, panelists and government functionaries gave the advice at the recently held First Annual National Tax Dialogue,in Abuja, organized by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), with the theme “Taxation in a Post-Covid Economy”. In his Keynote Address at the event, President, African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina, highlighted the pandemic’s impact on Africa’s economy and the various interventions by the bank and national governments. According to him, Nigeria’s economy shrank “by 3% in 2020 on account of falling oil prices and the effects of the lockdowns on economic activities,” adding that “with shrinkage in oil revenues, debt service payments pose the greatest risk to Nigeria.”
