Over 4.84 crore income tax returns (ITRs) for fiscal year 2019-20 have been filed till December 31, 2020, the Income Tax Department said on Friday.
The government has extended the ITR filing deadline for individuals till January 10, and for companies till February 15. Over 4.84 crore Income Tax Returns for AY 2020-21 have already been filed till 31st of December, 2020, the Income Tax Department tweeted.
The deadline for individuals to file ITRs for 2018-19 was August 31, 2019 and over 5.61 crore ITRs were filed.
Over 4.73 crore income tax returns (ITRs) for fiscal 2019-20 have been filed till December 30, amid the government extending the deadline for filing ITR till January 10 for individuals. Earlier, the deadline to file ITRs was December 31, 2020 for individuals and January 31, 2021 for companies. This was extended on Wednesday till January 10 and February 15, respectively. More than 4.73 crore Income Tax Returns for AY 2020-21 have already been filed till 30th of December, 2020, the I-T department said in a tweet. Last year, the deadline for individuals to file ITRs was August 31 and over 5.65 crore ITRs were filed. The number was over 5.12 crore till August 30. An analysis of the data showed that filing of tax returns by individuals for fiscal 2019-20 has slowed down so far in the current year, while filing by businesses and trusts have increased.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday announced further incentives for the construction sector, saying that projects worth billions of rupees had been started in the country, which would generate economic activities worth Rs1,500 billion and create hundreds of thousands of new employment opportunities.
Premier Imran, while fulfilling a major demand of the construction sector, granted one-year extension in the date for the fixed tax regime and also extended the date for disclosures of source of income by the investors till June 30, 2021 and the one for buyers till March 31, 2023.

Over 4.54 Cr ITRs Filed For Fiscal 2019-20 Till Dec 29
The data released by the tax department showed that over 2.52 crore ITR-1 have been filed till December 29, 2020, lower than the 2.77 crore filed till August 29, 2019.

With just two days left for the deadline for individuals to file income tax returns (ITRs) to end, the IT department on Wednesday said more than 4.54 crore tax returns for 2019-20 fiscal have been filed till December 29.
In the comparable period last year, 4.77 crore income tax returns were filed. At the close of deadline for filing ITRs without payment of late fees for fiscal 2018-19 (assessment year (AY) 2019-20), over 5.65 crore returns were filed by taxpayers.
