Associations and organisers back Covid-status certification for 21 June

23 April 2021 - Submitted by Martin Fullard Submitted by Martin Fullard on 23 April 2021 Trade associations, organisers and operators from across the events industry have signed an open letter confirming that they would welcome a blanket introduction of ‘Covid-status certification’ to get events running without mitigation measures after 21 June in England. The signatories, which include the Association of Event Organisers, Meetings Industry Association, Association of Event Venues and multiple organisers, said implementation would be subject to the provision of “clear and timely” guidance from the Government and it being “simple to understand and be of little cost to businesses.” The condition of the industry accepting Covid-status certification, such as proof of vaccination or proof of negative test, would be on the grounds that is only temporary. Individual would test themselves, rather than be tested on site.

Free mental health toolkit released by event industry associations

The Association of Event Venues (AEV), Association of Event Organisers (AEO) and the Event Supplier and Services Association (ESSA) have announced that their members heads up well-being toolkit has been made available to the public as a free resource. This mental health toolkit, a regularly updated library of resources, advice and further help, was released in February 2020, but was only available to members of the three associations. In light of the pandemic, and the pressure on the country s mental health, the associations have jointly agreed to make the resource freely accessible to the public. Chair of the Cross Association Event Industry HR Group, Raj Pragji (pictured), said: Mental health problems are common and widespread. Outcry from businesses over perceived delays to support grants

Councils are facing mounting pressure to channel discretionary grants out to businesses quickly after an investigation by an alliance of events industry partners found 83% of additional restrictions business grants had not yet been paid out. The government says some councils are taking far too long to distribute the money and will be closely monitored for progress . The Events Industry Alliance (EIA), comprised of the Association of Event Organisers, the Association of Event Venues and the Events Supplier and Services Association, has written to the Chancellor and the Local Government Association urging them to take urgent action to ensure that “blocked payments” are released to eligible businesses.
