Rathbones non-executive chairman Mark Nicholls will be stepping down from his role earlier than his previously announced date for May 2021.
In a stock exchange announcement today, the company said Nicholls would be retiring with immediate effect due to unforeseen personal circumstances.
Senior independent director Jim Pettigrew will assume the role of interim chair until the 2021 annual general meeting.
Bannister was at Phoenix for nine years and went into retirement when he stepped down in March last year.
Prior to this, he was CEO of HSBC Private Banking and group managing director of the insurance and asset management division. He also held roles as non-executive director at the Association of British Insurers, Punter Southall Group LLP, Unigestion LLP and Ping An.
