PEMRA notice on coverage of cabinet meetings akin to gagging the media: AEMEND By Reuters/File KARACHI: The Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AEMEND) on Wednesday said it strongly objects to the recent restrictions on TV channels in the name of advice’ to report on proceedings of the Federal Cabinet through sources. According to a statement released by the association: AEMEND is of the firm view that if there is news concerning the proceedings and decisions of the Federal Cabinet, and official circles decline to say anything on the record, it is the responsibility of the media to report matters of public interest.

Senior journalist Absar Alam shot, injured Top Story By News Desk ISLAMABAD: Senior journalist and former chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Absar Alam was shot in Islamabad outside his residence on Tuesday. Absar Alam received a bullet in his ribs damaging his liver, the hospital sources disclosed when contacted. He was shifted to hospital where bullet has been removed from his body. The assailant managed to escape after the shootout. Police have taken up the case and started efforts to hunt down the shooter. Sarfaraz, a family member of Absar Alam, told The News that the bullet damaged his liver, however, his condition is out of danger.

Senior journalist injured in gun attack - Newspaper

ISLAMABAD: A gunman shot at and injured senior journalist and former chairman of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority Absar Alam here on Tuesday. Police said that the incident took place before Iftar at F-11/2 Park, opposite OPF University F-11 Campus, where Mr Alam had come for a walk. A man jumped over the fence of the park, fired at Mr Alam and escaped, they said. As a result, the journalist suffered a bullet injury. Mr Alam was taken to a private hospital at F-10, where he was operated upon, police said, adding that his condition was now stable. Call for judicial probe as incident is widely condemned
