Three Aberlady residents join Gullane Area Community Council

FIVE Aberlady residents will represent the village on a community council. Gullane Area Community Council – which serves Gullane, Aberlady, Dirleton, Drem and West Fenton – already had hotelier Malcolm Duck and Frank Neate as members representing Aberlady. Now, the group has added Rebecca Simpson Hughes, Hayden Edwards and Jamie Tough to its ranks. Tom Drysdale, chairman of the community council, welcomed the trio. He said: “This is the first time for many years that Aberlady has had its full complement of community council members. “They will bring us renewed strength with their range of skills and they are already making a difference in encouraging greater community involvement and activity in the village.”

Campaigners pledge to redouble fight for Galloway National Park

It came as they criticised the tired old arguments used by SNP ministers during a debate on the issue in the Scottish Parliament.  Ben Macpherson, Scotland s rural affairs and natural environment minister, raised real concerns over the costs associated with new national parks. Addressing MSPs on Thursday, he said: Although we fully understand the desire to maximise the benefits of the area and the enthusiasm for a new national park designation, the Scottish Government’s position remains unchanged at present, with no plans to designate new national parks in Scotland.

Holyrood to hear calls for Scotland s third national park to be created in Galloway

The Scottish Campaign for National Parks (SCNP) and the Association for the Protection of Rural Scotland previously identified seven areas for future consideration.
