National Guard To Announce Gun Range Would Have No Significant Environmental Impact

The National Guard Bureau plans to issue a Finding of No Significant Impact report for its proposed machine gun range at Joint Base Cape Cod sometime this week. Christopher Faux, the executive director of Joint Base Cape Cod, emailed Bourne town officials last week stating that this report will be released. Once Joint Base Cape Cod officially receives the package containing the report and comments, more information will become available to the public. Upon learning this news, Andrew Gottlieb, the executive director for the Association to Preserve Cape Cod, issued a statement that was critical of this decision. The area in which the Guard hopes to build this range is coterminous with the Upper Cape Water Supply Reserve.

Christopher Faux, the executive director of Joint Base Cape Cod, notified local legislators and town officials in an email Thursday afternoon that after much discussion and deliberation, he is expecting the National Guard Bureau to sign and release a finalized Finding of No Significant Impact report related to the proposed machine gun range early next week. The response to public comment is also expected early next week, he said.
