Court acquits 2 men for alleged possession of 1,190kg of Tramadol tablets

A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has discharged and acquitted two men, Ibrahim Jega, 42, and Isah Mai-Gas, 41, for allegedly possessing 1,190 kilogrammes of Tramadol tablets.
The two accused were arraigned by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in 2016 on a two-count charge which bordered on conspiracy and possession of hard drugs.
The duo, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The trial judge, Justice J. K. Daggard set Jega and Mai-Gas free after finding them not guilty of the offences.
“The prosecution failed to prove his case beyond every reasonable doubt.

The House of Representatives on Monday held a public hearing on five bills, one of which was seeking establishment of a Federal University of Medicine and Health Sciences in Niger State.
Two of the bills are to establish two Federal Medical Centres, one of which is to be located in Wase Federal Constituency, Plateau State, where the Deputy Speaker Ahmed Wase, has been representing since 2007.
The legislations are titled, ‘A Bill for An Act to Enhance and Promote the Health and Wellbeing of Nigerians to Boost Local Healthcare Capacity,’ and ‘A Bill for an Act to Establish the Federal University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Bida, Niger State, for the Purpose of Providing Qualitative Education in Medicine and Health Sciences.’

Reps seek to enforce treatment of victims of gunshot wounds

The House of Representatives committee on health services, Tuesday, began a pubic hearing on six key health bills, including some to compel hospitals in the country, to treat victims of gunshot wounds and establish an agency to enforce food safety in public places in the country.
The Speaker of the House, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila in declaring the hearing open, reiterated that the “Legislative Agenda of the 9th House of Representatives outlined the ambitions we hold, regarding reform and overhaul of our nation’s healthcare infrastructure. Our gathering here today is in part, fulfilment of some of those ambitions”.
