AAA The High Court of Karnataka has said that it would consider the plea for payment of compensation to family members of the COVID-19 patients who died in Chamarajanagar district, allegedly due to lack of oxygen supply, after the outcome of the inquiry reports is known.
A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Justice Aravind Kumar passed the order on May 6 while hearing a PIL petition filed by K.M. Shreeniwasmurthy, a Chamarajanagar-based advocate. The Bench said it would hear the plea for payment of compensation for the 23 persons who died in the Chamarajanagar district hospital on May 2 and 3 after the preliminary report of inquiry, either by the IAS officer appointed by the State government or by the committee appointed by the Legal Services Authority, was submitted before the court.

New Delhi, May 4 : In a bid to reduce over-crowding in jails amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Uttar Pradesh government to decide, within a month, on premature release of prisoners who fulfil the conditions set out by the state for remission of sentence.
A bench of Justices Navin Sinha and V. Ramasubramanian disposed a clutch of petitions filed by more than three dozen prisoners, who sought release, after spending around 20 years in jail. The bench directed the state government to take a decision on the plea of these prisoners along with other similarly-placed prisoners within a month.

Sensitise students, parents to cybercrimes, officials told
The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has directed the Inspector General of Police, Crime Branch, to take necessary steps and develop effective methods to curb child pornography and other sexual crimes against children in the State. Acting on a petition filed by a human rights activist in Kannur, Commission member K. Byjunath had sought reports from the Director of General Education as well as the IGP of the Crime Branch. The Commission has come up with a set of recommendations for schools as well as the police in this regard.

AAA The Supreme Court has dismissed a plea seeking directions on the types of tests and treatment that would have to be done for COVID-19.
A Bench led by the Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana termed the petition, filed by a Commerce graduate, as frivolous.
The court said the petitioner moved the court without any knowledge or study of the issue.
The court imposed a cost of ₹1,000 on the petitioner. The court directed him to pay the cost to the Legal Services Authority of Calcutta High Court and submit a report to Supreme court.
