ALBANY, N.Y. (March 15, 2021) – A bill introduced in the New York Assembly would expand raw milk sales through herd-share agreements. Passage into law would take an additional step toward rejecting a federal prohibition scheme in practice and effect.
Asm. Kieran Lalor (R) introduced Assembly Bill 5957 (A5957) on March 2. The legislation would allow for a shared animal ownership agreement. Under herd-share agreements, consumers pay a farmer a fee for a “share” in either an individual animal, or a herd of cows or goats, In return, the owner of the share would then be entitled to a proportionate share of the animal’s raw milk production as a condition of the contractual arrangement.
