Post Office Renamed In Honor Of Civil Rights Attorney Chambers

/ The Derita Station Post Office in Charlotte was officially renamed Thursday the Julius L. Chambers Civil Rights Memorial Post Office in honor of the late Charlotte civil rights attorney. Chambers was a lead attorney in the U.S. Supreme Court case Swann v. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education in 1971 that paved the way for busing in Charlotte to desegregate public schools. He was also head of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, following in the likes of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. Congresswoman Alma Adams introduced the bill to rename the post office. She praised Chambers during the virtual ceremony for making it his life’s work to serve his community.

Rhode Island Bill Would Legalize Raw Milk Sales, Set Foundation to Nullify Federal Prohibition Scheme

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Feb. 18, 2021) – A bill filed in the Rhode Island House would legalize the sale of raw milk in the state. Passage into law would take an important step toward rejecting a federal prohibition scheme in practice and effect. Rep. Blake Filippi (R) and a bipartisan coalition of five representatives, introduced House Bill 5465 (H5465) on Feb. 10.  The legislation would amend statutes governing the production and sale of milk to legalize the sale of raw milk. Under the proposed law, raw milk would be subject to the same regulations and permitting requirements as pasteurized milk. Under current law, raw milk sales are prohibited although the state allows raw milk distribution through herd-share agreements.
