Abstract
At the meeting of the 17 Southern Governors held in Asaba, Delta State, the Governors resolved among others to ban open grazing in the Southern Part of Nigeria, as a step to tackle Farmers-Herders crisis in the South.
No sooner had the meeting lapsed that comments, criticisms and paroxysms ensued in different quarters of the Federation, particularly from political pundits, legal minds and concerned members of the society.
While some sections have argued that placing a ban on open grazing was a step in the right direction to palliate the spate of farmers-herders crisis, others have criticised the decision of the Southern Governors, labelling same as an infringement of fundamental rights to freedom of movement and ownership of property. And some have even noted that the banning of open grazing by the Southern Governors, is analogous to proscription of sale of goods and services by some section of the country in the North.
Editorial: National Security brouhaha: Let’s go back to Short Commission Report
Private Legal Practitioner and Journalist with the Multimedia Group, Mr Samson Lardy Anyenini has called for the disbandment of the Ministry of National Security.
According to the Lawyer, operatives of the Ministry have failed to deliver on their mandate as an intelligence-gathering unit of the state. Rather, they have constantly engaged in the abuse of their powers by mostly functioning as a police force.
This is indeed true as the Ministry has been in the news lately for the bad reasons.
The Chronicle can also say that the ministry, among its functions to formulate, coordinate, monitoring and evaluate the implementation of security and intelligence policies through the deployment of skilled human resources and modern technology for stakeholders to enhance security, freedom of the citizenry and national development, seem to be deviating from its responsibility.
Chief Samuel Sunday Obaro who died on March 11, 2021, was born on the 6th of November 1938 in Igarra, the headquarters of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area in Edo State. He was the fourth surviving son of Okomayin Joseph Izuse and Mrs. Abigail Owanza Obaro of the Eshinavaka Royal Family. His paternal grandfather was the son of Otaru Aibobo and his mother was the sister of Otaru Idanage.
It was about the time of Samuel’s birth that Apostle Joseph Balalola, the founder of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) visited Igarra for evangelization. His father and mother were converted to become Christians and were subsequently baptized and became founding members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Igarra. Chief Obaro attended the CAC with his parents from a tender age and remained a devout member of the church till his death. His mother was “Iya-ijo” of CAC until her death. Little Samuel was the first baby to be christened in the Christ Apostolic Church in 1938.

On -we’re in a perilous time no doubt- Govt

Indications emerged that the Fulani herdsmen and bandits have devised new methods to infiltrate the Southern part of the country.
Security sources informed the vanguard that buses loaded with Fulani youths have been arriving in various parts of the south, especially southwest, mostly at nights.
It was gathered that collaborators of suspected sponsors have established Non-governmental organisations that engage in what they term “security surveillance jobs”.
Recall that the Ondo State Government Security outfit codenamed Amotekun evicted 42 northern youths from Kano and Jigawa states from the state.
