Acting on a tip-off, the police Organised Crime Unit yesterday (16) raided a guesthouse at the Gam Sabha junction, Nugegoda and seized a consignment of ICE and heroin weighing five kilos each.
The police arrested the manager of the guesthouse.
Under interrogation, the suspect revealed that the parcels containing drugs had been handed over to him by an unknown party.
However, the police said they were looking for two persons who managed the guesthouse as a partnership.
A senior officer said the consignment of drugs had a street value of Rs.100 mn.
The manager of the restaurant is a resident of Kandy and had started working there only a few months back.

MANDATORY TO OBTAIN PERMISSION TO FELL COCONUT TREES

COLOMBO (News 1st): Laws will be formulated so that obtaining permission of the Divisional Secretariat will be made mandatory for felling coconut trees, the State Ministry of Coconut, Kitul, Palmyra and Rubber Product Promotion and Allied Industrial Production and Export Diversification said.
A draft prepared in this regard has been sent to the Legal Draftsman’s Department, Tissa Hewawitharana, the Secretary to the State Ministry of Coconut, Kitul, Palmyra and Rubber Product Promotion said on Tuesday (Jan. 26).
Based on the new regulations, permission will be granted if there is a need to cut down a coconut tree to build a house.
