Progressive groups line up behind single payer bill in NY

PUBLISHED 5:26 AM ET May. 13, 2021 PUBLISHED 5:26 AM EDT May. 13, 2021 SHARE A range of progressive groups on Thursday will begin a formal push for the passage of the New York Health Act, a bill that would pave the way for a single-payer health care system in New York.  The groups include Our Revolution, the political organization formed out of Sen. Bernie Sanders s presidential run in 2016, as well as the New York Progressive Action Network and the Campaign for New York Health.  The organized effort comes with several weeks to go before state lawmakers in New York conclude the legislative session next month.

A 43-year-old Stapleton man flashed a phony police badge and threatened to harm a woman and her family if she did not prostitute herself on the borough, authorities allege. Miguel Daniel Gatica Zeferino, of Tompkins Street, was arrested on Saturday on charges of sex trafficking and promoting prostitution for incidents from March through September of 2019, according to the criminal complaint.
