CANTON – A county legislative committee gave preliminary approval to accept $6 million from New York state to enhance emergency services communications.
The Board of Legislators Operations Committee voted to accept the grant at their April meeting. The full board has to vote on it in May to become official.
The committee’s resolution says the grant will “enhance county public safety operations by focusing on the strengthening of critical communications infrastructure, closing gaps in national interoperability, and ensuring that county communication systems are updated to ensure it is capable of supporting multijurisdictional response.”
Of the $6 million from the state Division of Homeland Security Services, $5,570,000 will pay for equipment with the remainder earmarked for “other fees and services.”
