Illinois not most-corrupt state in nation, but a close second, researchers claim

Illinois is ranked as the second-most corrupt state in a new University of Illinois at Chicago report.
A good-government reform group says lawmakers must pass reforms that make themselves uncomfortable to regain the public’s trust.
Using statistics from the U.S. Department of Justice, researchers at the university determined that in the decades since 1976, Illinois had more corruption convictions per-capita than any other state except Louisiana.

After 50 years in Illinois House, 36 years ruling it, Mike Madigan is quitting Former Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan is resigning as a state representative after 50 years in office. It came a little more than a month after he was ousted as speaker.
Michael J. Madigan was already the former Illinois House speaker, but on Feb. 18 he said he will become a former state representative by resigning at the end of the month.
Madigan, 78, served 36 years as Illinois’ House speaker before he was voted out on Jan. 13 by House Democrats. He has served 50 years as a state representative of the 22nd Illinois House district, which surrounds Midway Airport near Chicago.
Sen. Tracy to serve on Senate Committees, Ethics Commission

SPRINGFIELD – State Sen. Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) has been asked to serve as a Spokesperson for the Senate Judiciary Committee and for the Senate Environment and Conservation Committee for the 102nd General Assembly.
The 47th District Senator is also a member of the Senate Agriculture, Criminal Law, Education, Ethics, Executive and Revenue committees.
The Senate’s standing committees analyze legislation dealing with specific subject areas, such as education, agriculture and transportation. Committees screen legislation introduced by all members and usually only those bills approved by a committee may be considered by the entire Senate.
