Senior Tory accuses Boris Johnson of Christmas Covid cover-up following Tier 4 announcement April Roach
A senior Tory MP has accused the Government of deliberately delaying the announcement of new coronavirus restrictions until Parliament had broken up for the holiday period.
Sir Charles Walker, the vice chairman of the Tory backbench 1922 Committee, suggested the Government was trying to avoid parliamentary scrutiny by deliberately waiting to “pull the plug on Christmas”.
He told BBC Radio 4’s The World at One: “The Government, in my view, knew on Thursday, possibly even Wednesday, that they were going to pull the plug on Christmas but they waited till Parliament had gone.

Hundreds of cleaners outsourced to the multinational contractor OCS at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London will be made NHS employees on 1 August 2021 following a campaign by the workers and their trade union United Voices of the World.
UVW had warned hospital bosses that it would move to a ballot for industrial action and a legal case for institutionalised racism (the cleaners are mostly ethnic-minority).
UVW won a previous victory in April 2020, when Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust gave their 1,200 outsourced staff NHS contracts.
