The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched its 42nd communication satellite CMS-01 on Thursday, at 3.41 pm IST. It lifted off into the cloudy skies from the Second Launch Pad (SLP) of Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota. Initially scheduled to launch on 8 December and again to 14 December, it was pushed back due to bad weather and the possibility of hurricanes. The CMS-01 satellite will be the first in a new series of communication satellites that India will be launching after the GSAT and INSAT series.

ISRO launched CMS-O1, the vehicle Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C50). The satellite took off at 3:41 PM from the second launch pad at the Sriharikota space station. ISRO tweeted, PSLV C50 lifts off successfully from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. CMS01 successfully separated from the fourth stage of PSLV-C50. PSLV-C50 successfully injected CMS01 communication satellite precisely in predefined orbit. The satellite is functioning very well and will be placed in a specified slot in another four days. Teams worked very well and safely under COVID-19 pandemic situation .
