T.S. Singh Deo says Bharat Biotech is attentive but ‘just doesn’t have enough doses’.
The Serum Institute of India (SII) is unresponsive to the State governments, Chhattisgarh Health Minister T. S. Singh Deo, said urging the Centre to foot the bill for COVID-19 vaccines instead of passing on the cost to State governments.

The Hindu following a meeting with Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, Mr. Deo said, “There has been no response from the Serum Institute of India on queries from our side. There is nobody responsible who is talking there,” he said. Chhattisgarh has so far bought 7 lakh doses on its own, over 4 lakh doses of which are SII’s Covishield.

Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], May 1 (ANI): As the third phase of the COVID-19 vaccination program set to start from Saturday, Chhattisgarh Health Minister TS Singh Deo said that the state will start the vaccination from the poorest people who have Antyodaya ration card due to shortage of vaccine.
Talking to ANI, Deo said, Because the Central government has said that said the vaccination of people between 18 years and 44 years is entirely the state government s responsibility, we have decided to vaccinate the poorest people in the state who have Antyodaya cards and priority will not be given to Above Poverty Line (APL) candidates, he said.

Alarmingly poor coverage in UP, Bihar and Bengal
Phase-3 of India’s vaccination drive started on May 1 with a majority of States complaining of non-availability and restricting their coverage either to the 45+ group or staggering it for the new age group of 18-45 in phases.
The biggest concern remained the laggard and the most populous States such as Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, which are right at the bottom with just 4.46 and 4.81 per cent, respectively, of their population inoculated.
